Gabriel Diallo vs Taylor Fritz prediction

Gabriel Diallo made sure at least one Canadian would make it through to the third-round of their home tournament, as he defeated Matteo Gigante in straight sets. Diallo is the sole representative left after four Canadians lost in the second-round, including Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime. He wasn’t at his best but fought back from a 5-2 deficit in the second, including saving two set points, to win 6-3 7-6. 

He will have it a lot tougher in round three as he plays second seed Taylor Fritz. Fritz battled past Roberto Carballes Baena in the previous round, winning 7-5 7-6. The American was tested at times, as he was broken when serving for the first set and trailed Carballes Baena by a break for much of the second. The Spaniard performed well and had the opportunity to serve it out to force a deciding set but double faulted at break point down.

Fritz played Diallo for the first time just last month in the second-round of Wimbledon, winning a dramatic encounter in five sets. The Canadian, roared on by a home crowd, is capable of pushing Fritz all the way but the world number four’s all-round game should be enough for the win.
