Gabriel Diallo put up a fight in the third-round of the Cincinnati Open against world number one Jannik Sinner. The Canadian was uncompetitive in the first set but challenged Sinner in the second, even having a set point in the tiebreak to force a decider. Nevertheless, the Italian saved it and won three straight points to get the win. Diallo is now ranked 33 in the world, though his best results this season have been away from hard courts.

He will face Nishesh Basavareddy after the 20-year-old defeated Raphael Collignon in straight sets. The 20-year-old dominated the first set and raced ahead in the set two tiebreak to win 6-2 7-6. Basavareddy won his first Masters 1000 match in Cincinnati a little over a week ago and will be raring to go against the fourth seed.

Basavareddy could be an awkward opponent for Diallo, especially with his big serve and forehand combination, but the Canadian will be expected to come through and win.
