Francisco Comesana vs Ugo Blanchet prediction
Francisco Comesana enjoyed one of his best results of the season in Cincinnati as he reached the round-of-16, where he lost to Andrey Rublev. His form has dropped off since that point as he was defeated in the first-round of Winston-Salem and could only make the second-round of the US Open, despite an impressive round one win against seeded Alex Michelsen. His last match was at the Davis Cup where he lost a singles match to Jesper de Jong, though Argentina still got past the Netherlands.
Ugo Blanchet will be his opponent in round one of the Shanghai Masters. Blanchet qualified for the tournament after beating Christopher Eubanks in the final stage. He got through to the third-round of a Grand Slam for the first time last month, getting past all three rounds of qualifying and beating Miami Open Jakub Mensik in round two. In his first match back, he lost in the first-round of the St Tropez Challenger. Furthermore, he is yet to register a win at ATP 1000, 500 or 250 level this season.
Though Blanchet performed brilliantly at Flushing Meadows, it’s difficult to gauge whether it was a significant sign of him being a truly dangerous player going forward. Comesana is still ranked 90 places above him in the rankings and has won two of their three matches on the Challenger Tour. He will be the favourite to win.
