Francisco Comesana advanced to the next round of the Shanghai Masters after comfortably getting past Ugo Blanchet. The Argentine broke at the end of the first set and won eight games in a row at one point as he won 6-4 6-2. Comesana won all but two of his points on first serve, which totalled to 94%.
World number nine Lorenzo Musetti is his next opponent. Musetti began his Asian swing early in Chengdu, making it to the final as the top seed but he failed to win his first title since 2023 despite having championship points, losing to Alejandro Tabilo. He began the China Open in fine fashion, but the number of matches took their toll in the quarter-finals, as he retired in the third set against Learner Tien.
Musetti leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a four set win in the third-round of Wimbledon on his way to the semi-finals last year. A few days rest will have benefited the Italian, and he should be raring to go for this one.
