Francisco Comesana recorded his first main draw win on a hard court this season as he defeated Damir Dzumhur in straight sets. The Argentine was broken when he tried to serve out the match at the first attempt but broke the Bosnian serve in the very next service game to give himself another opportunity which he did not pass up. Comesana won 6-3 7-5 and fired down 11 aces.
He will face Alex de Minaur in the next round, who is fresh off his Washington Open title victory. He saved three championship points against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in a dramatic final to capture his first title of the season and one of the most impressive of his career. He now returns to an event where he finished runners up two years ago.
De Minaur’s game was firing on all cylinders last week and he should be expected to go deep in Toronto. Comesana is unlikely to offer much resistance against the Australian.
