Francisco Cerundolo continued his excellent run of form as he defeated Mariano Navone in straight sets. Cerundolo had only won his home event in Buenos Aires two days earlier, and he did experience a slow start as he was broken in two of his first three service games. However, he fought back and dug in to save three break points as he was serving for the first set. The second was more straight-forward, and he went on to win 6-3 6-4.
He now plays Thiago Agustin Tirante after he beat Cristian Garin in straight sets. Tirante was broken when serving for the first set at 5-4 but did so at the second attempt after breaking again in the next service game. He largely controlled the second to win 7-5 6-3 after one hour and 53 minutes.
Cerundolo has made a brilliant start to the season, and the top seed should navigate his way through this match against Tirante.
