What a week it has been for fifth seed Francisco Cerundolo. After beating his brother in the round of 16, he then faced top seed Alexander Zverev on Friday. The Argentine lost the first set but then rallied to win the second and deciding set to run out 3-6 6-3 6-2 winner.
He must keep his emotions in check and get himself up for another big match now as he faces in-form Spaniard Pedro Martinez.
The 27-year-old was handed a bye in the quarter-finals as Lorenzo Musetti withdrew so it will be interesting to see how sharp Martinez is especially early in this match.
He has not been pushed particularly hard by his two opponents this week so he is going to have to raise his game if he is to beat Cerundolo.
The pair have played twice before and won one match apiece. It was Martinez who won the match on clay while Cerundolo’s win came on grass.
We like Cerundolo this week however. He is on fire and has had outstanding support from the local fans. They can cheer him to another win here as the last Argentine in the tournament.
