Francisco Cerundolo advanced to a third final in Buenos Aires after defeating compatriot Tomas Martin Etcheverry in straight sets. The top seed faced just one break point and was rarely troubled as he won 6-3 7-5 after one hour and 51 minutes.
He will go up against Luciano Darderi. The Italian was on top form as he beat home favourite Sebastian Baez to make his first final of the season. The first set went on serve, but Darderi found his level to edge in front. He dominated the second set, winning 7-6 (2) 6-1 overall.
The head-to-head is locked at 2-2, and all of their matches have been on clay. They faced each other in the first-round of this event last year, with Cerundolo winning in straight sets. The top seed will be desperate to capture a title in front of a home crowd, but Darderi did not seem fazed at all when taking on a fellow Argentine in Baez in his semi-final match.
