Francisco Cerundolo vs Gabriel Diallo prediction
Francisco Cernudolo made back-to-back semi-finals during the middle of the clay court season in Munich and Madrid but lost to Ben Shelton and Casper Ruud respectively. He then made the round-of-16 of the Italian Open, pushing Jannik Sinner at times but ultimately coming up short in a straight sets defeat. The Argentine’s most recent event was more disappointing as he lost to Jiri Lehecka in the second-round of Hamburg. Nevertheless, Cerundolo has emerged as one of the most consistent players on the tour this season and has the ability to make a deep run here.
Gabriel Diallo will be his opponent. The Canadian barely had an impact in Monte-Carlo, Bucharest, Barcelona and Rome, failing to get beyond the second-round of any of them. However, Diallo had a breakthrough of sorts in Madrid as he entered the main draw as a lucky loser and went all the way to the quarter-finals, beating the likes of Cameron Norrie and Grigor Dimitrov.
Diallo won their only encounter last year in the semi-finals of the Almaty Open on hard court but Cerundolo is still the clear favourite and will be expected to make it through comfortably.
