Francisco Cerundolo vs Casper Ruud prediction

Casper Ruud’s hopes of a maiden title in 2025 continue to grow following a superb straight sets win over Daniil Medvedev.

The Norwegian swept into his 30th tour-level semi-final on clay (17-12) with a 6-3 7-5 success that also secured his first ever victory over the Russian.

Ruud has not lifted a title since his triumph in Geneva a year ago, but he’s looked a lot like his old self on the Madrid dirt and could return to the top ten if he reaches the final.

Standing in his way is Francisco Cerundolo, who snapped Jakub Mensik’s winning streak with a 3-6 7-6 6-2 comeback victory to go one better than his quarter-final appearance here last year.

The Argentine is into his second Masters 1000 semi-final and will be confident against Ruud given his 5-3 lead in the head-to-head.

The 20th seed has won the last two versus the Norwegian and posted a comfortable 6-4 6-2 success in Miami recently. However, it is 2-2 on clay with seven of the previous eight encounters being decided in straight sets.

Ruud has yet to drop a set in Madrid but that could well change against Cerundolo’s power and it may come down to whose forehand does the most damage, with whoever takes the opener likely to prevail again.

Francisco Cerundolo vs Casper Ruud tip: Over 2.5 sets
