Francisco Cerundolo advanced to the Los Cabos Open quarter-finals after his opponent Tristan Boyer retired in the second set of their match. The Argentine had lost the first set on a tiebreak but was up a break in the second before Royer decided that he could not continue. This was Cerundolo’s first match back since his surprising early exit at Wimbledon at the end of last month.
He will now face Arthur Gea. The Frenchman picked up his second successive victory at the event after beating Michael Zheng. He struggled at the beginning of the match as Zheng took the first set with ease, but Gea fought back to win 0-6 6-4 6-0 after one hour and 53 minutes. Gea now leads Zheng 2-0 in the overall head-to-head.
Cerundolo was largely unconvincing in his opening match, and he could find it tough against Gea, who has a 15-2 win-loss record on outdoor hard in 2026.
