Francesca Jones has two defeats from her opening three matches of the grass court season. She lost in the first-round of Queen’s Club to McCartney Kessler. A week later, she picked up a victory in Nottingham after defeating compatriot Harriet Dart in straight sets. However, any momentum was stalled as she fell to a comprehensive loss to Linda Noskova in the next round of the tournament.
Greet Minnen made a stunning start to her campaign on grass as she won five matches in a row to win the Birmingham Classic title. She continued her strong form with an impressive victory over former Grand Slam finalist Danielle Collins in the first-round of the Libema Open but then lost to Veronika Kudermetova.
They played against each other last year in the first-round of an event in Surbiton, with Minnen beating Jones 6-3 6-4.
Minnen won both of her qualifying matches to make the main draw at Eastbourne and currently has eight wins from her last nine matches overall. Jones will receive fine support from the home crowd but it’s difficult to look past the Belgian to win this one.
