Frances Tiafoe is coming off the back of a thoroughly impressive French Open as he made the quarter-finals for the first time. He did not drop a set in each of his first four matches and looked very secure on serve. The American battled away against Lorenzo Musetti but lost a competitive last eight clash in four sets. He now moves on to grass and will hope for a deep run here ahead of Wimbledon.
He takes on Dan Evans in round one after the Brit received a wildcard for this event. Evans, who was at his highest ranking of 21 less than two years ago, is now 217 in the world and mainly plays on the Challenger Tour. He suffered an early exit in Birmingham but managed to get through qualifying and win his first-round match in Rosmalen. He would lose in straight sets to Ugo Humbert at the next stage.
This will be their first match on grass, but they’ve played each other on ten occasions with Tiafoe winning six of them. The American won their last match at the Almaty Open in October, coming from a set down to win. Evans is not the player he once was, and Tiafoe should be winning this comfortably.
