Frances Tiafoe vs Aleksandar Vukic prediction
Frances Tiafoe recovered from a poor start to edge past qualifier Yosuke Watanuki in the second-round. The American had lost to Watanuki at Indian Wells earlier this year and was in trouble early on after a thoroughly uncompetitive first set. He regrouped in the second but struggled to break the Watanuki serve, finally doing so in the 12th game of the set to draw level. There were no more breaks in the match, but Tiafoe was always ahead in the deciding tiebreak to win 1-6 7-5 7-6.
His opponent will be Aleksandar Vukic as he beat Cameron Norrie in three sets. Norrie went into the match as the favourite, but he made a slow start as Vukic raced to a 3-0 lead and took the first set. The Briton won the second set on a tiebreak but the Australian was not to be denied as he broke in the middle of the decider to win 6-3 6-7 6-3. Vukic was secure on his service games, holding his serve throughout and winning 81% of his first serve points.
This is their first outdoor hard court match against each other, but Vukic leads the head-to-head 1-0 after beating Tiafoe indoors last year in Almaty. Tiafoe will be regarded as the clear favourite given his greater pedigree but he may not have things all his own way.
Frances Tiafoe vs Aleksandar Vukic tip: Frances Tiafoe to win 2-1
