Former champion Frances Tiafoe will be bidding to kick-start his year at a tournament where he has had great success of late.
The world number 17 has reached the previous two finals in Houston and is 10-5 overall, coming up just short in his title defence to Ben Shelton in last year’s showdown for the trophy.
However, the 27-year-old holds an indifferent 6-6 record in 2025 and will now aim to put a raft of second-round exits on hardcourts behind him with a reset on the clay.
This will be Tiafoe’s second meeting with Walton having beaten the 25-year-old world number 85 by a 7-6 6-3 scoreline in Brisbane at the start of the current season.
The Aussie produced an excellent display to down Michael Mmoh 6-3 7-6 in the first round, ruthlessly converting all five of his break points, but he will need to find a few extra gears to have a chance against Big Foe on home turf – and we just can’t see it.
