Alashkert come into this on the back of a third place finish in the Armenian Premier League in late-May. The Armenians reached the group stages of the UEFA Europa Conference League last season after being knocked out in the playoffs of the UEFA Europa League by eventual runners’ up Rangers. They now face a Hamrun Spartans side that, under the management of Branko Nisevic, have never played in UEFA competition after they were disqualified from last season’s UEFA Champions League due to being involved in a match-fixing scandal in 2013. They are an inexperienced outfit at this level and Alashkert, especially with first-leg home advantage, will expect to win this one quite comfortably.
