THE PREDICTION

Reigning Europa League winners Villareal host Italian side Atalanta in their first match of the Group Stage and will be glad to focus all their attention on matters in Europe, having failed to win any of their opening three La Liga fixtures. Two of those games saw Villarreal fail to score and in the knowledge that they must improve offensively Unai Emery’s will look to dictate play and retain possession, pushing multiple bodies forward whenever possible. Whilst this should lead to them proving more of a threat going forward, it may also present an opening for Atalanta who are an extremely dangerous side on the counter attack and with their wing-backs Robin Gosens and Joakim Maehle set to fly forward at every opportunity, it would be no surprise if the Serie A outfit took full advantage of any space left inside the opposition half. With that in mind, regardless of who comes out on top between these two sides, both teams to score has to be favoured.
