THE PREDICTION
Sporting CP head into the 2021-22 Champions League as Portuguese champions for the first time since the 2002-03 season. Having been placed in a competitive Group C, their first match sees them host Ajax, who will be desperate to improve on their Group Stage exit in this competition in 2020-21. With Borussia Dortmund facing Besiktas in the other Group C fixture in this round, both teams will be well aware of the importance this game holds and this could lead to a cautious encounter. Neither side are expected to commit too many bodies forward and leave themselves exposed at the back, aware of the attacking quality their respective opponents possess. With that in mind, goals may well be at a premium at Estádio José Alvalade and under 2.5 goals is to be seriously considered, regardless of who comes out on top.
