Man City arrive in Paris high on confidence after securing their first major trophy of the season this past Sunday, beating Tottenham 1-0 in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley. However, the holy grail of the Champions League remains the one big prize that this Man City side have failed to win since Pep Guardiola took charge at the club back in 2016. They qualified for the semi-finals by virtue of beating Dortmund 2-4 on aggregate after securing victories by two goals to one in both the home and away legs against the Bundesliga outfit. Like Man City, PSG have never won the Champions League and they also overcame a big German based hurdle in the quarter-finals, after knocking out defending champions Bayern Munich and gaining revenge for their defeat by Hansi Flick’s side in last season’s final. However, boss Mauricio Pochettino faces an anxious wait over the fitness of Kylian Mbappe, after the 22-year-old superstar was forced off injured after scoring twice in PSG’s 1-3 Ligue 1 win over Metz at the weekend. Mbappe has already netted eight goals in this season’s Champions League, with six of those coming in the knockout stage and he would be a massive miss for PSG if he wasn’t to be passed for this semi-final first leg. Despite the attacking riches likely to be on show from both sides this is expected to prove a close affair, however Man City have every right to be confident of at least avoiding defeat here and the visitors draw no bet may well prove the smart play, especially when considering that Guardiola’s side have won all four of their matches played so far in this season’s Champions League knockout stage.
