This is one of the ties of the second qualifying round as both AZ and Plzen have plenty of quality in their ranks and will be hoping to challenge for a group stage spot. AZ have had something close to a normal pre-season in terms of friendly matches in the build-up to this game but it is almost six months since their last competitive match. Plzen completed their league season in July and the new Czech season started last weekend so they could well have the edge in terms of sharpness and match fitness. It was only two years ago that Plzen reached the group stage but last year they came unstuck at Olympiacos. They will look to keep things tight defensively and they can frustrate AZ for long spells.
