Malaga have drifted from promotion contention in recent seasons due to a poor running of the club off-the-pitch but they started this season reasonably well until their 2-0 loss at Almeria last weekend. That derby day loss ended an unbeaten run start to the season. They now come up against one of the losing playoff semi finalists from last season, Girona. The Catalans have had a really poor beginning to the campaign this time around with three defeats from four and just a goalless draw at home to Las Palmas to show for it this season.
