Las Palmas reached the playoffs last season, following the mid-season appointment of Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta. Garcia Pimienta was the coach of Barcelona B and has been a coach at pretty much all levels at La Masia, so it is no secret at the way in which the Canary Islanders want to play their football. They now face a Real Zaragoza side that replaced Juan Ignacio Martinez with Juan Carlos Carcedo. Off-field issues have caused Zaragoza to focus on things they’d rather not as one of Spain’s biggest clubs languish in the second-tier. It isn’t expected to immediately improve on the opening day of the season and Las Palmas will be firm favourites for this one, especially with their home advantage.
