Real Oviedo’s 1-0 win in the Asturian derby against Sporting Gijon last weekend ended a run of seven matches without a victory as they had began to slip towards the relegation battle. A theme throughout that run has been tight matches. Since February 28, they have played nine matches with eight of them finishing 1-0 either way, 1-1 or 0-0. They come up against a Girona side that will have been boosted by Oviedo’s victory last weekend as it helped them close the gap on Gijon and Rayo in the playoff places following the Catalans’ own victory; a 3-0 win over Zaragoza.
