The home team’s 1-0 defeat to Sporting Gijon was their second consecutive defeat following a home loss to Real Zaragoza the week before. Every week that goes by makes the play-offs less and less likely and now Malaga will be happy and content with mid-table. They come up against a Rayo Vallecano side who maintain ambitions of automatic promotion but that seems unlikely.
