THE PREDICTION
The home side began their year with back-to-back clean sheets with a 0-0 draw in the league at Fuenlabrada followed up by a 2-0 away win at Socuellamos. It was their twelfth and thirteenth clean sheet in all competitions this season; that defensive foundation has allowed them to challenge for the playoffs but a lack of goal-scoring, less than a goal per game, has held them back from attempting to get into the automatic spots. Their opening games of the year are almost emblematic of their season so far. They come up against an Almeria side who have an extremely impressive first half of the season and that continued last week with a 3-1 win over Ponferradina. Their record against sides in the top six is mixed. Three of their five defeats have come to Espanyol (1st), Mallorca (2nd) and Gijon (4th). The only other side in the top six is Rayo Vallecano who they beat 1-0 but Rayo were down to ten men for over an hour of the game and Almeria nicked victory in the 95th minute after having a man of their own sent off with ten minutes to go. A dogged and low-scoring home win looks a value bet considering that record.
