THE LOWDOWN

REAL SOCIEDAD

As one of the most intense pressing teams in European football, Real Sociedad often spend the last few months of the season in freefall and that does appear to be the case for La Real once again with a Copa del Rey semi-final loss as well as UEFA Champions League Round of 16 elimination in the last month.

Imanol Aguacil’s have, though, been much-improved in La Liga either side of the March international break after a dip in form in the league, too. The hosts come into this one on the back of a Basque derby defeat of Deportivo Alaves a couple of weeks ago with Jon Pacheco scoring a 59th minute winner to make it three successive victories.

ALMERIA

It has been a truly awful campaign for Almeria as they head into the final eight games of the 2023/24 season sitting rock-bottom in La Liga with just one victory thus far. They are already onto their fourth manager of the campaign after the failed stints of Vicente Moreno, Alberto Lasarte and Gaizka Garitano but they are now coached by former West Brom boss, Pepe Mel.

The Andalusians come into this one on the back of a 3-0 loss at home to Osasuna in their most recent outing a couple of weeks ago after the March international break with goals from Jose, Ante Budimir and Iker Munoz. They begin the weekend sitting 15 points adrift of Celta Vigo with just 24 to play for.

THE TEAM NEWS

ALMERIA

Gonzalo Melero is missing through suspension for Almeria this weekend, whilst Sergio Arribas and Luis Suarez are both unavailable due to respective injury issues.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Maximiano; Pubill, Montes, Pozo, Centelles; Robertone, Pena; Ramazani, Viera, Embarba; Baptistao

THE PREDICTION

About a month or so ago, the prediction for this one would have been very different. Real Sociedad’s season was genuinely fading and there were concerns they were going to slip out of the top seven. Almeria had put in some good performances and finally managed their first win of the season last month but there is an expected outcome of this one that is overwhelmingly likely and that is for La Real to come out on top quite comfortably, especially with their home advantage.

TIP: REAL SOCIEDAD TO WIN
