THE LOWDOWN

RAYO VALLECANO

After a turbulent summer in which Rayo Vallecano lost their manager Andoni Iraola as well as some key players like Alejandro Catena, Fran Garcia and Santi Comesana. Rayo decided to eventually replace the underperforming Francisco with Iraola’s former assistant, Inigo Perez, as they continue to battle against finishing in the bottom three and the relegation places.

The home team come into this one on the back of back-to-back goalless draws in Spain’s top-flight. They finished up at 0-0 against Celta Vigo against Balaidos on Easter Sunday before the same scoreline against Getafe at Vallecas last weekend. That means Rayo have now suffered just two defeats in seven matches since the appointment of Perez.

OSASUNA

Osasuna come into this one on the back of suffering their third defeat in their last four La Liga matches. The Pamplona-based club were beaten 1-0 by European chasing Valencia in their most recent outing last week with Ante Budimir missing a penalty in a fairly amusing way as they drift away from the top seven.

Jago Arrasate led Osasuna to the final of the Copa del Rey and finished seventh, qualifying for the UEFA Europa Conference League last season but they are now coasting towards the end of the season with no realistic chance of making the European spots this time around. Only four teams have lost more games than the away team so far this season.

THE TEAM NEWS

RAYO VALLECANO

Both Alvaro Garcia and Diego Mendez are unavailable for Rayo Vallecano this weekend, whilst defender Aridane Hernandez is doubtful, too.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Dimitrievski; Balliu, Mumin, Lejeune, Chavarria; De Frutos, Lopez, Valentin, Palazon; Camello, Trejo

QUESTIONABLE: Aridane (Injured)

OSASUNA

Osasuna’s key striker Ante Budimir is missing through injury for this weekend alongside the likes of Aimar Oroz, Unai Garcia and Kike Barja, whilst Johan Mojica is a doubt, too.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Herrera; Areso, David Garcia, Herrando, Cruz; R. Garcia, Moncayola, Munoz, Gomez; Jose, R. Garcia

UNAVAILABLE: Budimir (Injured), Oroz (Injured), Barja (Injured), Garcia (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

These two sides have overperformed and overachieved their general expectations in recent seasons but have both underwhelmed to different extents so far this season. Osasuna are in some indifferent form of late as they drift towards the end of the campaign. Rayo Vallecano, on the other hand, are close to ensuring La Liga status for next season, despite being the joint lowest scorers in the league. Regardless of who comes out on top, a fairly difficult wathch for the neutral is to be expected at Vallecas.
