THE LOWDOWN

LAS PALMAS

Following promotion last season, it has been a magnificent campaign for Las Palmas with former Barcelona youth coach, Garcia Pimienta, implementing a controlling and easy on the eye style of football that has the Canary Islanders challenging for a top seven finish and an unlikely but potential return to European competition.

The home team come into this one on the back of a thrilling 3-3 draw in the capital city of Madrid against Getafe, fighting back from 2-0 and 3-1 down in that match to steal a point. That does mean, though, they have now managed just one win in their last six matches in La Liga as their push for Europe stalls a tad.

ATHLETIC BILBAO

Under the management of former Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde, Athletic Club have been one of the more entertaining teams to watch in Spain’s top-flight as they legitimately challenge for a top four spot and a return to the UEFA Champions League. They have also reached the Copa del Rey final where they will face Real Mallorca.

Their impressive campaign has been built upon an exciting, attacking style of football that was limited last weekend as they were held to a goalless draw against Barcelona at San Mames, just a few days after hammering Atletico Madrid by three goals to nil in the cup. Their 27 matches so far this season have consisted of 72 goals.

THE PREDICTION

This one has the potential to be a really enjoyable and entertaining, easy on the eye game of football. The majority of the campaign has seen Las Palmas play quite controlled, low risk football but their overall intention is to play a progressive style. Athletic Club have been outstanding to watch this season and there will be a hope for the neutral that they got their goalless draw out of the way last weekend so a fun watch should be in store in Gran Canaria on Sunday afternoon.
