THE LOWDOWN

CELTA VIGO

For much of this season, Celta Vigo’s performances were a lot better than their results and that therefore convinced the club to stick with Rafa Benitez for much of the campaign but eventually enough was enough and the former Real Madrid and Liverpool boss was replaced by Celta’s B team coach, Claudio Giraldez.

Claudio Giraldez, playing a more proactive and progressive style of football, has helped ease the Galicians away from the bottom three and the relegation places. However, they do remain in danger with three games to go as they come into this one on the back of a slender 1-0 loss to Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano in the capital at the weekend.

ATHLETIC BILBAO

Former Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has produced an impressive and entertaining Athletic Club side that have been effective as well as enjoyable throughout the campaign. Their push for a top four finish and UEFA Champions League qualification is now all but over, though, after some poor form in the last month has undermined their impressive campaign.

Ever since defeating Real Mallorca on penalties in the final of the Copa del Rey at La Cartuja in Seville, Athletic have been very underwhelming since then. The Basque club managed to snatch a 2-2 draw with Osasuna after Osasuna had gone 2-0 up at San Mames and they have managed just one win in their last five matches since that cup final.

ATHLETIC BILBAO

THE PREDICTION

So, as mentioned, Celta have been playing a much more entertaining style of football since Claudio Giraldez replaced Rafa Benitez. Their 1-0 loss to Atletico at the weekend was more something of a one off. They now face an Athletic side that have been one of the most entertaining teams to watch in the whole of Spain with their star studded attacking players but a depleted Athletic side may well be concerned about the improved hosts and an entertaining home win would seem a good bet for this one.

TIP: CELTA TO WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
