THE LOWDOWN

BARCELONA

Barcelona had suffered through a difficult first-half of the season but majorly improved once Xavi Hernandez made the decision to step down at the end of this campaign following a 5-3 loss at home to Villarreal in January. The former Barcelona captain, though, has since changed his mind and will be staying on in his role.

Belligerent about the fact that Barca have been better than champions Real Madrid this season, despite all facts and even eye test suggesting that isn’t the case, Xavi’s Blaugrana come into this one on the back of being beaten 4-2 by regional rivals Girona last weekend to mean they currently sit third in La Liga.

REAL SOCIEDAD

As one of the most intense pressing teams in the whole of European football, Real Sociedad have followed a similar pattern in terms of results in recent years whereby they start well before soon fading in the second-half of the campaign. That has happened again for La Real but they do appear set to finish the season strongly at least.

The Basque giants come into this one on the back of a comfortable 2-0 defeat of Las Palmas last weekend at the Anoeta with an own goal from Alex Suarez being followed up by a Sheraldo Becker strike. That means they have now suffered just one defeat in their last seven matches in La Liga since they were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in early March.

THE PREDICTION

These are two of the teams tucked inside La Liga’s top six but both sides will be a little frustrated and underwhelmed by their campaigns on the whole. Barcelona will need to launch themselves back into a title race next season, whilst Real Sociedad will just have to try and find a way of not allowing their season to capitulate between January and March as it has done pretty much since 2019. We could have a care free encounter in this one, though, in which both teams scoring would seem a decent chance bet.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
