This one could be easy to overthink. Under the management of Xavi, Barcelona ended the season quite poorly but, after their January incomings, had a two-month spell of sheer excellence. The Catalans have added and rebuilt their squad, once again, and, despite the uncertainties over whether some or any will be registered before this opening match, Xavi’s coaching should mean that Barca will be much-improved overall this season and they have looked very sharp and impressive this summer. Rayo Vallecano, following promotion in 2021, were impressive in the first-half of last season before a long collapse that saw them finish in the bottom-half of the table and the off-field issues at the club mean another battle against relegation is likely. A high-scoring Barca win appears likely.
