THE LOWDOWN

ALAVES

Deportivo Alaves gained promotion back to the Spanish top-flight last season, eventually winning the dramatic Segunda Division playoffs. Under the management of Luis Garcia Plata, playing in a stereotypically Basque rough and rugged style, Alaves are expected to struggle down at the bottom end of the table throughout the campaign.

After eight matches of the 2023/24 La Liga season, Alaves have collected just seven points with two victories. They snatched a draw against ten-man Celta during the last midweek before a 2-0 defeat at home to Osasuna in their most recent outing last weekend, meaning they have suffered three defeats in four matches.

REAL BETIS

Manuel Pellegrini’s Andalusians have had to deal with financial issues like every other club in Spain’s top-flight and they were restricted in the business that they could do over the summer transfer window. Despite that, they managed to add some nice players such as Isco and Hector Bellerin, as they seek another top seven finish and European qualification.

The aforementioned Isco notched a vital winner at home to Sparta Prague in the UEFA Europa League in midweek, after Assane Diao had made it three goals in three senior appearances for the club earlier in the match. Betis had been winless in four matches prior to their victory at home to Valencia, last weekend, too, at the Benito Villamarin.

THE TEAM NEWS

ALAVES

Antonio Blanco is suspended for this weekend, whilst Giuliano Simeone is beginning to get some fitness back after a horrific leg break during pre-season.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Sivera; Tenaglia, Marin, Sedlar, Duarte; Blanco, Guevara; Sola, Hagi, Rioja; Kike

UNAVAILABLE: Blanco (Suspended)

QUESTIONABLE: Guridi (Injured), Simeone (Injured)

REAL BETIS

Manuel Pellegrini will be without the likes of Luiz Henrique, Youssouf Sabaly and Nabil Fekir due to injury, whilst Marc Bartra is a doubt for this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Bravo; Bellerin, Pezzella, Ruibal, Miranda; Rodriguez, Roca; Diao, Isco, Rodri; Perez

UNAVAILABLE: Luiz Henrique (Injured), Sabaly (Injured), Fekir (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Bartra (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Alaves have always been expected to battle against relegation and a relatively strong start to the season never changed the overall view; especially now as their form begins to dissipate the deeper we get into the start of this season. Real Betis, on the other hand, despite their general inconsistency, have finally started to move back towards the upper echelons of the table and a double chance bet in their favour against struggling opposition looks the way to go for this one.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – REAL BETIS TO WIN OR DRAW
