THE PREDICTION
Real Valladolid are justifiably favourites for this one. The home side, following a difficult start to the season, have picked up 15 points from a possible 27 since just prior to the international break. Their 3-2 win over Marbella in midweek in the Copa Del Rey means they have won both games in 2021 after beating Getafe away last week. They come up against a Valencia side who have been in turmoil since pre-season. The appointment of the impressive coach Javi Gracia was undermined by a fire-sale with no replacements and off-the-field arguments between the owners and supporters; a giant of the Spanish game is now legitimately in danger of going down and it looks almost probable at this stage. Since their remarkable and yet fortunate 4-1 win over Real Madrid in November, which lifted them to on the cusp of the European places, they haven’t won in eight games since then; co-incidentally, it was the same weekend that Valladolid’s form picked up. The home side will be extremely confident of inflicting more pain on Gracia’s men.
