THE PREDICTION
Zinedine Zidane’s future wasn’t just distinctly unclear; it was pretty much inevitable. His job was hanging by a thread as he headed into three season-defining matches against Sevilla, Borussia Monchengladbach and Atletico Madrid. Two victories in the first two means the bulk of the job has been successful. This final game is the toughest. Atletico were fortunate enough to rest Saul Niguez and Luis Suarez for the final half an hour against Red Bull Salzburg as the league leaders assured qualification for the Champions League knockouts in midweek. It seems that this past decade has produced Madrid derbies that have either come at dramatic conclusions, such as two Champions League finals, or title defining moments. This one won’t be title defining but with a game in hand on Real, if Atleti were to avoid defeat then it’d put them as firm favourites for the title - if they aren’t already. It’s an under pressure Zidane against a reinvigorated Simeone executing Cholismo to its maximum this season. The expectation will be cards and aggression but chances at a premium. Under 2.5 goals and 20+ booking points each team looks a reasonable bet.
