THE PREDICTION
Elche’s first season back up in the Spanish top-flight following promotion post-lockdown has been quite reasonable. They went into Christmas just a point above the relegation zone but with two games in hand on the majority of teams in La Liga; six points separates their current position and a potential European spot, such is the tight nature of this season’s Liga. They come up against a resurgent and belligerent Real Madrid. As ever, under Zidane, they win when it matters. Defeats to Alaves and Shakhtar Donetsk in late November and early December meant Los Blancos were on the verge of being out of the Champions League and the title race. However, very impressive and very big wins against Sevilla, Borussia Monchengladbach and Atletico Madrid have sparked a rejuvenated run in which they have gone onto beat Athletic Club, Eibar and Granada. Madrid will expect to extend that run to seven games in their final game of the year.
