Spartak Moscow’s defeat to Sochi over the weekend saw Zenit open up a three-point lead at the top of the Russian Premier League standings and it is absolutely crucial that the visitors get something from this game – even if it is a draw – in order to prevent the reigning champions from running away with the league title once more. It is an unenviable task that faces Spartak though, as Rubin Kazan – quite curiously – are the only team to have beaten Zenit at Saint-Petersburg Stadium in the league over the last two-and-a-half years. The visitors will no doubt be fired up for this challenge though and, as was the case back in October, this could end in a draw if they keep their discipline in this battle between the top two.
