THE LOWDOWN

Casa Pia

Following promotion to the Portuguese top-flight for the first time ever last season, Casa Pia have enjoyed an impressive 2022/23 Primeira Liga campaign. They spent the majority of the first-half of the campaign in the top five and the European spots before drifting away into mid-table in the calendar year of 2023.

Their relative success in the first-half of the campaign was built on an impressive defensive record but they have now ended up conceding 37 goals in their 32 games. Their most recent outing was a 2-1 defeat away to Porto in which they had taken a first-half lead before conceding the winner in second-half stoppage-time.

That 2-1 loss to Porto means they have now suffered three defeats in their last four Primeira Liga matches. They are winless in their last seven matches, too, as they drift towards the end of the season having already accomplished their goals.

Estoril

Following promotion to the top-flight in 2021, Bruno Pinheiro nearly led Estoril to surprise European qualification last season before a dramatic dip in form in the second-half of the campaign. That theme of falling away in the second-half of the season has happened again with a horror calendar year of 2023 as they languish down towards the bottom part of the Primeira Liga table.

The visitors come into this on the back of a 2-0 win over out-of-form Arouca in their most recent outing, last weekend. Estoril have now managed two victories in their last three matches as they sit fourth bottom in the league, comfortably safe of the danger zone, though.

It has been a poor campaign for Estoril and that is reflected in their scoring statistics, too. Only five teams have failed to score 30 goals this season with two of those making up the bottom two and one being a newly-promoted side as well as Estoril and Portimonense.

THE PREDICTION

Neither of these sides can be drawn into the bottom three and neither of these sides can achieve much in the final two matches of the season. The home team do have the opportunity to finish in the top-half of the campaign, which would be very impressive, following promotion last season. These are two of the lowest scorers in the Primeira Liga, though, with just 57 goals scored between the two. So, regardless of the match result, a low-scoring and fairly tedious encounter is expected.

TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
