THE PREDICTION
Sporting’s impressive start to the new campaign continued last week as they hammered Tondela 4-0 and that saw them take advantage of city rivals Benfica’s slip up and move to the top of the table. The one advantage Sporting have over Benfica and Porto is the lack of European football so they can concentrate fully on the league and that could benefit them in this first half of the season especially. They make the trip to face Vitoria Guimaraes who have some solid form behind them with three wins in their last four. They are looking solid at the back while they are not quite playing their free-flowing attacking football of recent seasons but are scoring consistently. Sporting will not find it as easy to score against their defence but they still have enough firepower to get on the scoresheet. Expect both teams to score in what will be a good examination of Sporting’s credentials.
