THE TEAM NEWS
NECAXA
- Necaxa have been struggling with consistency and are coming off their first defeat of the Clausura season when they suffered a 2-1 away defeat at Juarez. Los Rayos ended a four-game undefeated streak with that result, and they sit in sixth place of the standings with eight points (W2, D2, L1).
- Star goalkeeper Hugo Gonzalez missed last week’s match at Juarez due to an ankle injury and he should be considered as a game-time decision here. Meanwhile, defender Carlos Guzman is a long-term absentee due to a broken leg.
Expected starting XI: Hugo Gonzalez (Yosgart Gutierrez); Ventura Alvarado, Jairo Gonzalez, Rodrigo Noya, Raul Sandoval; Daniel Alvarez, Fernando Arce, Claudio Baeza, Juan Delgado; Diego Chavez; Mauro Quiroga
QUERETARO
- Queretaro have been one of the biggest surprises of the Clausura campaign so far as they currently sit in fifth place of the standings with nine points (W3, L2). However, they are coming off a disappointing 2-1 home defeat against Club America in their previous league match and that result snapped their three-game winning run.
- Gallos Blancos are at full strength for this game and should be ready to trot out their best XI, headlined by the likes of Ariel Nahuelpan, Marcel Ruiz, Fabian Castillo and Jeison Lucumi.
Expected starting XI: Gil Alcala; Jorge Aguilar, Enrique Lopez, Julian Velazquez, Jaime Gomez; Clifford Aboagye, Jonathan Perlaza, Fabian Castillo, Marcel Ruiz; Ariel Nahuelpan, Jeison Lucumi
THE PREDICTION
These sides enter this contest separated by just one point in the standings, both are coming off playoff appearances in the Apertura and both are coming off defeats in their previous Liga MX match. Queretaro are healthier, but Necaxa will be at home and they tend to produce their best performances in front of their fans. All things considered, this game could easily end in a draw as there’s very little separating them.
