Urawa Red Diamonds’ home defeat to Kashiwa Reysol in the cup last weekend means they are now winless in four matches in all competitions. That run includes a 5-0 and 3-0 defeat and they haven’t scored in that time. One win and two draws in their opening six matches has given them a start that appears to be reasonable but only one team has scored fewer (Gambo Osaka, who have played just one game) and only two teams have conceded more goals. Their opponents, Kashima Antlers, come into this on the back of a 5-1 away win in the cup against Avispa Fukuoka; a team they had just lost to in the league. Kashima have only failed to score in two games this season and those two games involved them going down to ten men. Given that, and Urawa’s poor scoring record, a Kashiwa win could be on the cards.
