THE LOWDOWN
NAPOLI
After the fairly embarrassing failed spells of both Rudi Garcia and Walter Mazzarri this season, the defending Italian champions Napoli might finally be starting to turn their form back around as the Neapolitans have shown some real improvement under current Slovakia boss Francesco Calzona; the former assistant to Maurizio Sarri.
They come into this one on the back of a 2-1 win over Juventus at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. That victory followed a 6-1 thrashing of Sassuolo in the week as they prepare for the second-leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie against Barcelona, which is delicately poised at one apiece. They are lifting themselves back towards the European spots.
TORINO
Torino have a habit of really flattering to deceive but mainly being very underwhelming and unentertaining to watch for the neutral with a lack of attacking fluency and a major focus on being controlled in possession, under the supposedly progressive management of former Hellas Verona boss, Ivan Juric.
In their 27 matches so far this season, Torino begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the top-half of the table but they have managed to score just 25 goals in those 27 games. They come into this one on the back of yet another frustrating watch as they shared a goalless draw with Fiorentina, going down to ten men in the first-half with a red card awarded to Samuele Ricci.
THE TEAM NEWS
NAPOLI
Napoli are without defender Amir Rrahmani as well as midfielder Jens Cajuste due to injuries, whilst Cyril Ngonge is also a doubt for this weekend.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Natan, Juan, Olivera; Anguissa, Lobotka, Traore; Politano, Osimhen, Kvaratskhelia
UNAVAILABLE: Rrahmani (Injured), Cajuste (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Ngonge (Injured)
TORINO
Samuele Ricci is out suspended for Torino this weekend with the likes of Ivan Ilic, Adrien Tameze and Perr Schuurs all unavailable due to injury.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-1-2): Milinkovic-Savic; Djidji, Buongiorno, Masina; Bellanova, Linetty, Sazonov, Rodriguez; Vlasic; Sanabria, Zapata
UNAVAILABLE: Ricci (Suspended), Ilic (Injured), Lovato (Injured), Tameze (Injured), Schuurs (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: N’Guessan (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
As mentioned, there has been a significant improvement in the performances of Napoli since Francesco Calzona was appointed, despite the fact he has the distraction of coaching Slovakia at UEFA EURO 2024. Torino will travel south to Naples and be as stubborn and as frustrating to watch as ever but there is an expectation that Napoli will be able to get over the line with a victory in a game whereby they would have badly struggled to create anything just a month or so ago.
TIP: NAPOLI TO WIN
