THE LOWDOWN

LAZIO

It has been a generally underwhelming season for Lazio thus far but the capital city club, under the management of Maurizio Sarri, come into this on the back of an extremely unexpected victory in midweek. They defeated Bayern Munich by a goal to nil in the first-leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie at the Stadio Olimpico with a penalty from Ciro Immobile.

The hosts of this clash with Bologna have enjoyed a positive few months as they try and push themselves towards a top seven finish in Serie A after a miserable start. That victory over the German champions on Wednesday evening means they have now suffered just two defeats in their last ten matches across all competitions.

BOLOGNA

Whilst a youth coach at Paris Saint-Germain, Thiago Motta was once widely ridiculed for his outspoken determination and vision to play a 2-7-2 system. Taken out of context and mocked as a result but Motta has continued to persist with an easy on the eye style of football that actually has his Bologna side pushing for a top four spot and potential UEFA Champions League qualification in Serie A.

After a slow start to the calendar year, Bologna have overcome that and are now in excellent form. They come into this one on the back of an impressive 2-0 defeat of Fiorentina in the league during the week, making it three victories on the bounce whereby they have scored ten goals. Goal scoring, aside from Joshua Zirkzee, had previously been a concern.

QUESTIONABLE:

BOLOGNA

Adama Soumaoro remains out injured for this one with his ACL issue, whilst former Atalanta midfielder Remo Freuler is absent due to suspension.

PREDICTED XI (4-1-4-1): Ravaglia; Posch, Beukema, Lucumi, Kristiansen; Moro; Orsolini, Aebischer, Ferguson, Saelemaekers; Zirkzee

QUESTIONABLE: Soumaoro (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Maurizio Sarri will lead a buoyant Lazio into this one that have enjoyed an extremely impressive run of form playing a controlled style of football that does not really allow for an opponent to exploit them defensively, as even Bayern Munich found out. That said, it is unlikely they are going to remain as consistent as they have been moving forward and if anyone could take advantage, it may well be an in-form Bologna side. Siding with the away team looks like good value on Sunday.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – BOLOGNA TO WIN OR DRAW
