THE LOWDOWN

GENOA

Following promotion back to the top-flight last season with 2006 FIFA World Cup winner Alberto Gilardino at the helm, Genoa have enjoyed a relatively impressive campaign as they head into this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table and clear of any potential relegation battle.

The Genovese club come into this one on the back of a valiant display that ended in defeat at San Siro against champions-elect Internazionale, last weekend. Kristjan Asllani gave Inter a 30th minute lead before Alexis Sanchez doubled it from the penalty spot eight minutes later. Genoa did pull a goal back in the 54th minute via Johan Vasquez but were eventually beaten by two goals to one.

MONZA

Monza are an incredibly ambitious club off the field and will soon be aiming for a top seven finish and European qualification in Serie A after reaching the top-flight for the first time ever in 2022. They begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table but by no means out of contention for finishing in the top seven.

They enjoyed back-to-back victories against AC Milan and Salernitana but now come into this one on the back of a frustrating loss. They hosted an in-form and impressive Roma side last weekend and were hammered by four goals to one with strikes from Lorenzo Pellegrini, Romelu Lukaku, Paulo Dybala and Leandro Paredes before Andrea Carboni scored a late consolation.

THE TEAM NEWS

MONZA

Papu Gomez remains unavailable due to a suspension for doping, whilst the likes of Gianluca Caprari and Samuele Vignato are out injured for Monza, too.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-2-1): Di Gregorio; Birindelli, Caldirola, Mari, Carboni; Gagliardini, Bondo; Colpani, Pessina, Mota; Duric

THE PREDICTION

These are two sides that are firmly ensconced in the middle-of-the-table in Serie A with little hope of mounting a charge towards the top seven but no real concerns about being dragged down into the relegation battle. They have both been steady in their style of football this season with Genoa scoring 29 and Monza just 28 in their 27 matches so far this season. A low-scoring affair is to be expected this weekend.
