THE LOWDOWN

FIORENTINA

Under the management of Vincenzo Italiano, Fiorentina come into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat of Genk in the group stages of the UEFA Europa Conference League in midweek. That has moved them into pole position to finish top of Group F in that competition as they sit two points above Ferencvaros with one game to go – against the Hungarians.

However, they have really struggled domestically of late with their return from the November international break being a 1-0 defeat at San Siro against AC Milan, last weekend. That means I Viola have now suffered four defeats in their last five Serie A matches and they have drifted out of the top seven ahead of this weekend.

SALERNITANA

Following the appointment of legendary AC Milan striker, Filippo Inzaghi, as their new manager, performances of Salernitana have improved down at the bottom of Serie A. They remain rock-bottom in the table after 13 matches but did earn their first victory of the campaign last weekend in their most recent outing.

The Salerno-based club pulled off a surprise, come from behind 2-1 defeat of a struggling and out of form Lazio side to close the gap between themselves and potentially miraculous safety. That victory means they have suffered just two defeats in their last six matches across all competitions, scoring more than one goal in a game on four occasions in that time.

SALERNITANA

Salernitana have a couple of injury concerns for this weekend’s visit to Florence with the major issue being that of Mexican goalkeeper, Guillermo Ochoa.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Costil; Daniliuc, Gyomber, Pirola; Mazzocchi, Coulibaly, Bohinen, Bradaric; Kastanos, Candreva; Ikwuemesi

THE PREDICTION

I Viola are in bad form. Vincenzo Italiano remains one of the most promising and exciting, tactically progressive managers in Italian football and they will continue to play the same way as they search for some consistency and fluency in attack. Salernitana, as mentioned, have made a habit of being able to consistently create numerous chances in a match. Given all of that, this one should be quite an entertaining encounter with Fiorentina remaining favourites, given their home advantage.

BETTING TIP: FIORENTINA TO WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS
