THE LOWDOWN

FIORENTINA

Under the management of Vincenzo Italiano, Fiorentina reached the UEFA Europa Conference League final for a second successive season in midweek. I Viola edged past Belgian giants Club Brugge by four goals to three on aggregate and they will face Olympiakos in the final in Athens for a chance to win a European trophy.

Domestically, Fiorentina have perhaps been a little more underwhelming. Their 2-1 defeat away to relegation-threatened Hellas Verona at the Bentegodi last weekend means they sit firmly in the middle-of-the-table. They begin the match day sitting a point and a place outside of the top eight and the European spots.

MONZA

Monza gained promotion to Serie A for the first time ever in 2022 but they are an extremely ambitious club and will not be resting on their laurels after that ascension. They head into the final three match days of the 2023/24 Serie A campaign sitting six points adrift of the European spots after a relatively impressive campaign.

Raffaele Palladino’s visitors come into this one on the back of their underwhelming recent run of form, though. They shared a 2-2 draw with Lazio in their most recent outing, last weekend, and that means they are now winless in their last six matches with three draws and three defeats in that time.

THE TEAM NEWS

FIORENTINA

Vincenzo Italiano is dealing with just one injury issue for this weekend’s visit of Monza as striker Riccardo Sottil is missing for I Viola for this one.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Christensen; Faraoni, Milenkovic, Ranieri, Parisi; Lopez, Duncan; Ikone, Barak, Castrovilli; Nzola

UNAVAILABLE: Sottil (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

MONZA

Papu Gomez remains suspended for non-footballing reasons, whilst Patrick Ciurria is out injured and Andrea Carboni is also a doubt for Monza.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Di Gregorio; Birindelli, Izzo, Mari, Kyriakopoulos; Akpa-Akpro, Bondo; V. Carboni, Pessina, Zerbin; Colombo

UNAVAILABLE: Gomez (Suspended), Ciurria (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Carboni (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Both of these sides are sitting outside of the top eight but Fiorentina do have the back door qualification route to Europe via winning the UEFA Europa Conference League. However, both Fiorentina and Monza are finishing the campaign with something of a whimper and neither team will be overly confident as they meet at the Artemio Franchi this weekend so a low-scoring encounter seems quite likely.
