THE PREDICTION
Following Spanish midfielder Sergio Busquets testing positive for Covid-19, the Spain U21 side have been recruited at short notice to fulfil this friendly against Lithuania, which was originally supposed to be the final opportunity for Luis Enrique to assess his side in a match environment ahead of their opening EURO 2020 contest vs Sweden. Therefore, a raft of young Spanish players are set to make their senior international debut under the guidance of U21 boss Luis de la Fuente. They face an opponent in Lithuania who have been beaten in each of their last five international fixtures (including friendlies), scoring just a single goal over the course of those matches. Spain U21s in contrast are coming off the back of a run to the semi-finals of the European U21 Championships and will be familiar with one another, having played together only last Friday in their 0-1 defeat to Portugal U21s. No doubt they will be desperate to make an impact against a weak senior opponent and show Luis Enrique that the future is bright for Spanish international football. Whilst the experience of Lithuania may see them find the net against such a youthful opposition bound to make mistakes with the ball on occasions and perhaps struggle in set piece situations, Spain are more than capable of creating numerous opportunities themselves against an opponent short on confidence and off the back of having shipped three goals away to Latvia in their most recent match. Whilst the result itself could go either way, both teams to score should prove the smart play.
