Former Basel manager Murat Yakin departed Swiss second-tier side Schaffhausen in the summer after the surprise departure of Vladimir Petkovid to Bordeaux. Switzerland reached the quarter-finals of UEFA Euro 2020 meaning that they have now have made it to the knockout stages in five of the last seven major tournaments in which they have qualified for. Yakin started his tenure last month with back-to-back goalless draws against Northern Ireland and Italy in qualification as well as a friendly victory over Greece. Northern Ireland will have to go for the win in this game to stand a chance of forcing their way into the top two and a playoff spot in this group but the Swiss will have their eye on Italy at the top and the hosts will come into this as the favourites.
