THE PREDICTION

Portugal began their World Cup European Qualification campaign with a win, however Fernando Santos’ men will have been disappointed to have only beaten Azerbaijan by one goal to nil at home. Despite recording 29 shots, it was an own goal that separated the two sides and Portugal simply have to improve their potency going forward should they wish to maintain their 100% record in Group A away at Serbia. The hosts are coming off the back of a thrilling 3-2 victory over Republic of Ireland and won’t fear their opponents with home advantage in their favour. However, Portugal are of a far superior standard to Republic of Ireland and if Cristiano Ronaldo alongside his teammates can put in a similarly attacking performance as they did vs Azerbaijan with far more cutting edge in front of goal, then the reigning European Champions should prove too strong for Serbia in this one.
