THE PREDICTION
A 1-3 win for Russia over Malta sees them perched at the top of Group H heading into this match against the only other Group H side to taste victory in midweek. Slovenia shocked Croatia, pulling off an outstanding 1-0 triumph at home and head to Sochi full of confidence off the back of such a result. Despite having home advantage, Russia will not find this easy, with Slovenia expected to play a similar way as to how they did against Croatia, allowing the hosts to dominate possession with a view to soaking up pressure through their disciplined set up, which may in turn lead to them hitting Russia on the counter attack. This is likely to lead to Slovenia blunting the hosts’ attack and as a result, Russia may be forced to settle for a draw here.
