The home team come into this on the back of a 1-0 defeat away to Iran in the opening match of the third round of AFC FIFA World Cup qualification. Syria have been inching closer to qualification for the major event in previous cycles and will hope to get off the points mark with a win here against the United Arab Emirates. The UAE are also an improving footballing nation and they come into this after a goalless draw at home to Lebanon which extended their unbeaten run of form to eight matches. A run that stretches back to December 2019. Their manager is Bert van Marwijk who managed Australia at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and was coach of the Dutch as they reached the final in 2010. A side in good form with a good manager will expect to avoid defeat but given Syria’s home advantage, a draw looks the sensible bet for this one.
